As part of this mission-driven team at UAF, you’ll not only support data and communications efforts but also help curate and deliver engaging career-exploration and college-prep workshops that inspire students to plan their next steps. The position plays a key role in supporting the Upward Bound program’s mission to help first-generation, college-bound students succeed. This position combines data management and digital communications to keep program operations running smoothly and to share our story with a wide range of stakeholders.

The candidate will manage and analyze student data across multiple platforms, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and university requirements. They will create and distribute engaging digital content—including newsletters, social media updates, and internal communications that highlights student achievements and program impact.

Working directly with students, the specialist will also advise on high school graduation requirements, the scholarship and FAFSA processes, and career exploration using AKCIS, providing guidance that supports college readiness and career planning.

To succeed in this role, an applicant will need excellent organizational and communication skills to manage tasks and collaborate effectively. Hands-on experience in data management across platforms and extensive experience with digital communications to a wide variety of stakeholders. A successful application will have a strong commitment to education and understanding of how to support first-generation, college-bound students. Candidates will be able to accurately advise students about high school graduation requirements, the scholarship process, FAFSA process, and career exploration using AKCIS.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience curating and delivering workshops to high school students for college and career prep purposes.
Extensive experience with high school graduation requirements, ACT/SAT/ASVAB processes, and Alaska Performance Scholarship requirements, and other higher education scholarships and deadlines.
Extensive knowledge of Alaska Performance Scholarship levels and benefits
Three years of experience as a project manager, overseeing collaboration between team members to develop and deploy products preferred
Three years of experience collecting and analyzing statistical data to measure KPI preferred
Three years of experience developing, deploying, and maintaining cross-platform communications that align with communication strategies preferred
Three years of experience as a Communications Manager or similar position requiring the development and execution of communications strategies preferred
Experience in written communication, including but not limited to proposals, press releases, social media, posts, annual reports, and other marketing collateral preferred
Have a valid Alaska driver license or the ability to obtain one

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
