As the Executive Officer for the University of Alaska Board of Regents, you will serve as the primary liaison among the regents, university administration, governmental entities, students, and the general public. You will serve as a representative of the regents, responding to communications and events on behalf of the board and its members.

This role works directly with both the board chair and the president on a regular basis and is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of accurate interpretation and understanding of Regents' Policy, University Regulation and Alaska Statute pertaining to the University of Alaska and public officials.

To thrive in this role, the successful applicant must bring deep expertise in laws governing open meetings, public records, conflicts of interest, and ethical governance, along with strong management and supervisory abilities. They should demonstrate exceptional discretion in handling confidential matters and possess the strategic insight to enhance board engagement and governance practices. A proven ability to work independently and take initiative is essential, as is the capacity to collaborate across diverse teams and executive leadership. Success in this role also depends on maintaining a comprehensive view of the university’s operations, ensuring board compliance with legal standards, supporting informed decision-making, and preserving the integrity of official records and proceedings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have 7–10 years of high-level administrative experience, including extensive interaction with executive leadership and public relations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Master's degree in a related field and at least seven years of relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and professional experience.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria as outlined in the Transportation Safety Guide.
  • Eligibility to become a Notary Public in the State of Alaska and to obtain a commission upon hire is required. Must obtain within 30 days of hire.

Position Details:

This position is located at the University of Alaska System office on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 82, based on education and experience.
