Kenai Peninsula College in Homer is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program Coordinator/Instructor to lead and deliver high-quality educational services.

This multifaceted role involves designing and implementing specialized instruction for individuals and small groups in basic English, math, English as a Second Language (ESL), life skills, and GED preparation. The ideal candidate will develop customized curriculum materials using a variety of delivery formats, including electronic and e-learning tools, aligned with state and national ABE standards. They will assess students’ academic levels, conduct placement testing, and evaluate instructional effectiveness.

In addition to instructional duties, the Coordinator will manage and maintain program data in the state’s National Reporting System (NRS) and college registration systems, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. This role also involves recruiting, training, and supervising volunteer tutors, coordinating services with the grant coordinator, and overseeing a diverse ABE program serving nine Homer area communities. The selected candidate will supervise program staff, ensure compliance with GED policies and procedures, and assist with budget monitoring, policy development, and professional representation at state meetings.

Applicants should possess advanced knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional strategies for learners with disabilities, and effective assessment methods. Preferred qualifications include experience teaching GED, ESL, literacy, and basic math to adults, as well as grant writing, supervisory experience, and coordination with social service agencies.

This position may require travel to remote locations. Candidates should be comfortable flying in small planes to across-the-bay villages and driving on gravel roads to communities up to 25 miles from Homer.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years experience (i.e. training or human resource development), or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Homer. This is a part-time, 32-hours per week, exempt, term staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
