The Welding Technology Department at UAA provides training and education for welding processes used in Oil and Gas Exploration, Construction, Maritime, Mining and Excavation, and many more. Our students weld daily, sometimes attending several classes a day, in the pursuit of meeting the requirements for entry level employment. This position is quite possible the backbone of daily operations, as (1) machines constantly need to be verified of operational compliances, (2) steel materials need transported, prepared, and stored, and (3), an accountability of the entire laboratory must be maintained to ensure the Department operates to its maximum potential.

An extreme passion for organization, combined with a strong troubleshooting and repair background will assist an applicant with prior welding operations knowledge with an overall successful employment experience. The applicant should possess strong organizational skills, Microsoft Office skills, welding and fabrication skills, troubleshooting skills, and inventory management experience. This applicant should appreciate more often than not, alone, or as a lead within a small group. This applicant will have opportunities to utilize their professional yet captivating personalities when establishing and maintaining outside vendor relations that reflect both the university, and the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

🔧Tracking and organizational skills directly related to inventory operations.
🔧Microsoft Office program utilization
🔧Ability to establish and maintain professional communication with outside sales specialists, equipment and consumable vendors, and local industry.
🔧Ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to over head.

Preferred Experience:

🔧Inventory Manager or Inventory Specialist
🔧Welding training, education, and weld qualifications in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) from a post secondary education facility, industrial trades facility, or government agency.
🔧Forklift operation, maintenance, and inspection training/experience.
🔧Electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, term-funded, 10-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 76, based on education and experience.

A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.
