The University of Alaska is seeking a skilled and experienced Emergency Management Professional to join our Environmental Health & Safety and Risk Management team. This full-time position plays a vital role in planning, coordinating, and implementing emergency preparedness and response strategies to protect our campus community. The Emergency Manager plays a critical role within the University of Alaska Anchorage system, serving as a key leader in emergency preparedness, response coordination, and risk mitigation. This full-time position resides within the Environmental Health & Safety and Risk Management department and is responsible for developing and executing emergency management plans, coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies, and ensuring the safety and resilience of campus operations. The department supports the university’s mission by fostering a culture of safety, preparedness, and rapid response in times of crisis.
To thrive in this role the ideal candidate will possess demonstrated experience in emergency management or a related field such as law enforcement, homeland security, or military operations planning. Success in this position requires strong skills in crisis negotiation, stakeholder coordination, and public communication. Candidates should be adept at managing complex incidents, facilitating consensus in diverse environments, and navigating regulatory requirements. A background in urban planning, public administration, or emergency management is preferred, along with the ability to effectively lead within a dynamic university setting.

Minimum Qualifications:
5 years experience in law enforcement, homeland security, emergency management or incident command/military operations planning.
College graduate who has majored in urban planning, public administration, emergency management, or crisis response.
A valid Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.
Position Details:
This position is located on the UAA Main campus in Anchorage, and flexible on-site work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
