Do you have a passion for storytelling, content creation, and community building? The UAF College of Business and Security Management (CBSM) is seeking a creative and motivated Communications Specialist. This position leads outreach and social media efforts, including developing weekly e-newsletters and planning content across various platforms. This position ensures accurate lists, tracks campaign performance, oversees digital signage, writes blog posts, and maintains an online job board connecting employers with students and alumni.

The role supports CBSM’s major events, including the Arctic Innovation Competition and the Business Leader of the Year, as well as student and community programs. Duties include creating marketing materials, updating webpages, coordinating event communications, and serving as a key contact to ensure smooth logistics before, during, and after events.

Marketing management is also central to this role. The Communications Specialist maintains website content, manages photo assets, supports video production, and guides student marketing assistants in editing projects. The position collaborates with CBSM student organizations and ensures that all materials adhere to UAF brand standards.

Content creation spans flyers, degree maps, advertisements, blogs, newsletters, and event programs. The Communications Specialist ensures clarity, accuracy, and consistency with CBSM and UAF branding while advising faculty and staff on best practices. This role also supports recruitment and retention through high-quality materials.

Finally, the Communications Specialist serves as CBSM’s Public Information Officer (PIO), representing the college on the UAF PIO committee. The position prepares press releases and public service announcements in coordination with University Relations, ensuring all communications reflect CBSM’s mission and align with UAF’s institutional standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, graphic design, public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field, and three years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 

Extensive experience in marketing, public relations, and graphic or website design may be substituted.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
