The Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB) is seeking a full-time Fiscal Manager to join our Business Office.  IAB supports over 150 faculty and staff conducting research throughout Alaska and the Arctic, supported by federal, state, and other external funding sources. 

As Fiscal Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the fiscal health of IAB.  Working closely with the Director and Executive Officer, you’ll manage IAB’s budget, financial forecasting, and reporting.  You’ll be relied upon daily for fiscal oversight, such as compliance and approving expenditures; monthly for management reporting; and annually for continuation budget planning. 

This position supervises one staff member and is a part of IAB’s Business Office, a cohesive team that supports IAB research through post-award management, human resources, procurement, and administrative support for our centers and programs.

To succeed in this role, you must possess excellent customer service skills, knowledge in accounting systems, proficient understanding of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles), budget forecasting, and ability to supervise.  You should be highly skilled in the use and creation of spreadsheets, data browser/report generating, and project management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 3-years of professional fiscal experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks.  This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package.  Flexible work arrangements may be considered.  UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage.  New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
