Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Under the general direction of Circulation Supervisors, must have the ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Must have excellent customer service skills; meet and greet the public in a pleasant and business-like manner.
- Daily duties:
- Check out, check in, and renew circulating library materials, including Reserves, at the Circulation Desk.
- Answer phone and give basic information or direct the question to a Public Services staff member or librarian.
- Shelve books in correct call number in the book stacks including Reference and collections.
- Check read book stacks for accuracy of shelving.
- Gather un-shelved books and return them to the Circulation Desk for check in as ‘in-house’ use.
- Work on shifting projects as assigned.
- Keep copiers filled with paper.
- Assist in opening and closing the library if working during the first or last shift.
- Check in and check out entertainment media and equipment.
- Schedule conference rooms when needed.
- Ability to lift approximately 40 pounds.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Experience:
Typing and word processing skills. Neat handwriting/printing. Responsible person with ability to work independently and perform detailed, *repetitive* work with a high degree of accuracy. Strong attention to detail. Flexibility to learn a variety of tasks and work with multiple departments.
Preferred: Basic library research knowledge. Previous library experience a plus, but not necessary.
Required Education or Training:
- High School Graduate or GED
- Current student of University of Alaska enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours with a GPA of 2.00 or higher at all times
Salary Information
This is a part-time student position starting at $14.38 per hour, up to 20hrs per week while in session. Additional hours are available during winter/summer breaks.

- Monday - Thursday: 8:00am - 9:00pm
- Friday: 8:00am - 6:00pm
- Saturday: 12:00pm - 6:00pm
- Sunday: 1:00pm - 9:00pm
Spring Break Hours:
- Monday, March 10 - Thursday, March 13: 8:00am - 6:00pm
- Friday, March 14: Closed
