The School of Allied Health in the College of Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage, is seeking a part-time, term assistant professor to teach surgical technology and prerequisites courses in the School of Allied Health.

The part time Term Assistant Professor of Surgical Technology position involves didactic and clinical teaching in a surgical technology program, emphasizing student-centered learning, engagement, and instructional excellence. Key qualifications include knowledge of the current surgical technology scope of practice, experience in student evaluation and outcomes assessment, and familiarity with contemporary curricular content for Surgical Technology education.

The role requires effective collaboration in a multicultural setting, alignment with the College of Health mission, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Additional requirements include computer literacy and up-to-date expertise in nursing or nursing aide practice.

To thrive in this role, you should have extensive experience in Surgical Technology, either as a scrub role practitioner or instructor within the past decade. A strong background in teaching Surgical Technology is essential, emphasizing student-centered learning, engagement, and instructional excellence, along with effective communication and proficiency in instructional technologies. Additionally, experience working within a diverse, multicultural workforce is crucial.

Preferred qualifications include expertise in curriculum development, program management, and assessment, as well as familiarity with accreditation processes and industry standards. Knowledge of the unique training needs and considerations for Surgical Technology in Alaska is also highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree.
•Current NCCA-approved credentials in surgical technology (CST).
•Master degree in related field preferred.
• Significant experience in Surgical Technology, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
• Substantial teaching experience in the Surgical Technology discipline with a commitment to student-centered learning, student engagement, and teaching excellence. Documented evidence of successful use of instructional technologies and ability to communicate effectively as a teacher.
• Experience leading or working in a diverse workforce in a multi-cultural setting.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Goose Lake campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a part-time, exempt, term-funded position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
