Are you a University of Alaska student looking to build professional office and administrative experience? The UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) is seeking a dependable Student Assistant to monitor our main office, provide essential front desk coverage, and assist with department procurement during regular business hours.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should be dependable, welcoming, detail-oriented, and organized. The primary focus of this position is keeping our front desk covered, greeting visitors, answering phone lines, assisting with supply purchasing and order tracking, handling incoming mail/deliveries, and managing daily office logistics. Ad-hoc administrative support may also be provided to faculty and researchers as needed.

Successful candidates will be able to work independently at the front desk, manage purchasing documents with accuracy, and communicate effectively with a diverse team of faculty, staff, vendors, and students. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and
spreadsheets is required.

About CFOS

CFOS is one of the most geographically diverse academic units at UAF. Our main office is located in Fairbanks, with additional facilities in Anchorage, Seward (Seward Marine Center), Kasitsna Bay (NOAA-UAF Kasitsna Bay Laboratory), and Juneau (Lena Point Fisheries Facility).

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled as a UA student in at least 6 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0, or be a newly enrolled student. Depending on daily tasks, you may need to perform moderately strenuous physical activity such as lifting paper boxes or receiving incoming shipment crates.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAF campus in Fairbanks and is part-time, up to 20 hours per week while school is in session, student position with pay starting at $16.20 per hour. Additional hours may be available during summer and winter breaks.
