The Community & Belonging (C&B) team is deeply committed to supporting the needs of the many UAA student communities. The Centers (IRSC, MSC and the PC) are dedicated spaces with programs that foster connection with the community and holistic student development. Community & Belonging celebrates the cultural assets of students with minoritized or marginalized identities and works to transform societal norms to build a campus community where all students can thrive as their full authentic selves.

The Pride Center Leaders (PCL) serve as student representatives of the Pride Center and in peer support roles for the students we serve. The students serving as PCLs have passion, commitment and knowledge in supporting and working with 2sQ+ people across multiple intersecting dimensions of identity such as Queer & Trans People of Color, students with disabilities, etc.

Students in this position have responsibilities to care for the space, such as opening and closing duties, general staffing of the PC, and assisting in staffing the SU Hub front desk. PCLs will have the opportunity to create and co-create engagement opportunities of their own. Students in this role engage in opportunities for growth and learning on topics such as identity development theory and incorporate what they've learned through avenues such as our peer support group.

To thrive in this role a successful applicant should have commitment to personal and community development. They should experience or an interest in identity development and strong interpersonal communication skills. Having demonstrated knowledge of underrepresented groups and/or marginalized groups would be helpful. They should have the ability to manage and keep confidential information. Additionally they should have a commitment to campus and community involvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Position Details:

This is a Student Assistant 2 position for up to 20 hours/week with the hourly rate of $16.52.

This position is open to undergraduate students only.
