Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Student Accounts/Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our team. This benefited full time position plays a critical role in managing student accounts, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing excellent customer service to students and university staff.
As a Student Accounts/Accounts Receivable Specialist, you will be responsible for handling student accounts receivable and collections, assisting students with financial commitments, reconciling accounts, and processing financial aid disbursements and refunds. You will also serve as a key liaison for third-party sponsorships, coordinating agency contracts, tuition waivers, and scholarship payments. The role requires maintaining strict confidentiality, adhering to the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, and ensuring compliance with university policies and federal regulations.
The ideal candidate will be a strong problem-solver with the ability to research and resolve discrepancies in student accounts efficiently. They will have exceptional customer service skills, demonstrating patience, professionalism, and the ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly to students, parents, and agencies. A solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial best practices, including account reconciliation and internal controls, is essential. Experience in accounts receivable, collections, financial aid, or student accounts within a university or similar setting is highly preferred.
This individual must be highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of multitasking and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to ensure accurate and professional interactions with diverse stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will also be tech-savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and advanced Excel functions such as pivot tables, charts, and data analysis. Experience with Banner or other financial/accounting systems is preferred. Adaptability and proactiveness are key, as this role requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team while identifying process improvements and operational efficiencies. Strong analytical skills are necessary for interpreting financial data, preparing reports, and making recommendations for process enhancements. Lastly, the candidate must have experience handling confidential records and sensitive financial information with discretion and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics or related field and 6 months professional fiscal experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Soldotna. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78 starting at $25.11 per hour, based on education and experience.
