The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Department of Athletics is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Coach - Women's Basketball. Seawolf Athletics is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), and competes in multiple National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) divisions. The Seawolf program features 13 teams competing at both the Division 1 and Division II levels.

As the Head Coach of the women's basketball program, you will oversee all aspects of the Seawolf NCAA Division II women’s basketball team. This includes ensuring the safety, health, wellness, and academic success of student-athletes while fostering a competitive and positive team environment. The Coach will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations; recruiting student-athletes committed to both academic and athletic excellence; monitoring academic progress and eligibility; managing the program’s budget; supporting the department’s mission and policies; and promoting intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the university.

To thrive in this position, the Coach must have a proven track record of coaching success at the Division 1 or II level, or equivalent experience, and have a passion to serve student-athletes for their health, safety, and wellness.

To be successful in this role, the Coach must possess strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and a communication style that reflects well-developed emotional intelligence when working with colleagues in a professional setting. A thorough understanding of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and conference rules and regulations is essential. The Coach’s coaching philosophy should align with the mission, vision, and values of Seawolf Athletics and UAA. Building professional, collaborative relationships with student-athletes, administrators, faculty, staff, and the broader community is vital. Experience in fundraising to support the women’s basketball program is also required. This role involves the supervision and mentoring of both staff and student-athletes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field and four years relevant coaching experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree preferred

Preferred:
Extensive experience as a basketball coach, with a majority of the experience being at the Division II or Division I level.

Additional requirements:

AED, CPR and First Aid certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date and/or before having contact/meeting with student-athletes, whichever date is sooner.

NCAA coaches certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date, or prior to any off-campus contact/evaluation of prospective student-athletes, or observation of countable athletically related activities (CARA), whichever date is sooner.

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) certification, or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.

UA Safe Title IX certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.

Applicant must possess an unrestricted Alaska driver's license or be able to obtain an unrestricted Alaska driver's license within 60 days of accepting the job. In addition, the applicant must meet the University's safe driving criteria.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage.  This is a full-time, 12 month, term, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
