We are seeking an IT Analyst to join our team in a temporary capacity starting in January 2025 with an estimated duration of 3-4 months. The IT Analyst will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and optimizing our IT systems and processes to ensure seamless operation and maximum uptime. You will evaluate system performance, identify and resolve technical issues, and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and security. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, providing technical support, and managing IT projects to deliver innovative solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of IT infrastructure, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for leveraging technology to drive success. Experience in remote polar research environments is a plus (Antarctica/Arctic regions). When not working remotely, this position will require travel to and sailing on a research vessel at sea. Travel arrangements to/from the vessel are covered by the Seward Marine Center. Applicants from any geographic area within the United States are encouraged to apply, and relocation will not be required. Sharing a stateroom with one other person may be required while on board.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a degree from an accredited college in a related discipline and two years of professional experience*, or equivalent experience/combined education. The hiring manager’s assessment of adequate skill level may be accepted in lieu of the degree or experience requirement. Prefer experience with: VMWare virtualization infrastructure, Cisco iOS, FortiGate Firewalls, Windows Server, and Linux operating systems.
*Experience includes the installation, operation, and maintenance of electronic systems, with a focus on problem solving and quality control.
Position Details:
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until a successful candidate is identified. The position is eligible for overtime and may receive additional benefits if sailing on Sikuliaq. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
