This position is available at Grade 79, 80, or 81, depending on experience. The role can be based in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau and offers flexibility for either a fully in-office or hybrid work arrangement.

As our Institutional Research (IR) Analyst, you will gather and synthesize raw data and context from a variety of sources, producing and communicating information in multiple ways to highlight and inform operations, policy decisions and key stakeholders. You will be joining an enthusiastic, supportive team that is committed to serving students and the university community through delivery of timely, understandable and relevant insights.

You will have the flexibility to work in-person or hybrid within Alaska, and the option of formalizing an individual career development plan for professional advancement within the department. The position will be hired as a Research Professional 2, 3, or 4 level, depending on qualifications, skills, and experience.

To thrive in this role, an applicant should bring a strong quantitative and research background, demonstrated experience formulating and communicating analysis and key findings, as well as demonstrated proficiency in Excel, SQL, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools. Success in this position requires the ability to systematically synthesize and apply new technical skills alongside policy evaluation. Design and automate data retrieval and reporting processes, develop standardized reports, and conduct in-depth analyses to turn raw data into information, informing institutional decision-making. The ideal candidate will be adept at working with multiple complex data systems such as Banner, comfortable preparing responses to external data requests and surveys, and skilled in synthesizing findings into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences. Strong demonstrated collaboration and communication abilities are essential, as the role involves cross-functional teamwork, training support, and the development of reporting tools and documentation for use across the university system.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, you must:
A) have prior experience and demonstrate proficiency in the following, using appropriate tools: creating complex spreadsheets (i.e., Excel), data extraction and cleansing (i.e., SQL), statistical analysis and data visualization (i.e., R, SAS, Excel).

AND

B) hold a baccalaureate degree with an analytical focus (statistics, math, economics, or other quantitative discipline OR have at least 1 year of demonstrated, direct experience conducting institutional, operational, or policy research.

Position Details:

This position can be located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau and offers workplace flexibility with a fully in-office or hybrid workspace. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package.  UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79, 80, or 81, based on education and experience.
