Kenai Peninsula College is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Technician (Fiscal Tech III) to join our team at its Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. This position plays a crucial role in managing financial processes, ensuring compliance with university regulations, and supporting faculty, staff, and students with various fiscal needs.
The Accounting Technician will be responsible for purchasing functions, serving as the local subject matter expert on procurement policies, obtaining vendor quotes, processing requisitions, and managing ProCard transactions. This role also includes budget maintenance, ensuring accurate tracking of expenses, revenue, and budget allocations for various campus funds. The technician will assist with travel arrangements, handling travel authorizations, requests, and expense reports while managing Travel ProCards and vehicle records. Additionally, the role requires oversight of lab and course fees, collaborating with faculty and vendors to track expenditures and maintain accurate financial records.
In the area of accounts payable, the technician will review and approve invoices, monitor encumbrances, and provide feedback on modifications. As the petty cash custodian, this individual will manage disbursements, reconcile transactions, and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Other responsibilities include maintaining check logs, processing cashiering transactions, and ensuring proper handling of incoming funds in compliance with university policies. The technician will also coordinate closely with KPC Administrative Services, assisting with financial reconciliations, journal vouchers, reimbursements, and inventory management.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cash handling procedures, automated accounting systems, and financial regulations, along with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. They should be proficient in Microsoft Excel, possess strong communication and customer service skills, and be able to maintain accurate records while working efficiently under deadlines. Knowledge of purchasing policies, grant processes, and reconciliation techniques is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of college coursework in Accounting or related field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Kachemak Bay campus in Homer. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77 starting at $22.98, based on education and experience.
