Community Debate Coordinator for the Seawolf Debate Program

The Community Debate Coordinator for the Seawolf Debate Program will have the opportunity to work with the internationally recognized Seawolf Debate Program as it promotes academic, competitive debate in Alaska's middle and high schools. They will have the opportunity to work independently in developing curriculum for training judges and coaches in middle & high school debate.

The Community Debate Coordinator for the Seawolf Debate Program will assist the SDP coaching staff in planning, organizing, and hosting civic debate engagement projects. The CDC will actively recruit and manage a pool of community volunteers to serve as judges during SDP middle school debate tournaments. The CDC will work with SDP coaching staff to develop curriculum for adjudicator training and will facilitate workshops for training volunteer adjudicators. The CDC will asssit in the development of coaching resources for middle school educators and volunteer coaches at area middle schools. The CDC will train those middle school coaches. The CDC will develop a robust network of UAA students and SDP alumni to serve as expert adjudicators at local middle school and high school debate tournaments.

The applicant should have knowledge of the norms practiced in Alaska's Middle School Public Debate Program; ASAA Drama, Debate, & Forensics formats; and worlds-style debating. The applicant should have practical experience debating or coaching in each of those formats. The applicant should have experience working with middle school and/or high school students in academic, competitive debating as a volunteer.

Minimum Qualifications:

Enrolled in the UA system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. Have at least 3 years of competitive debate experience at any level. Have 2 years judging and/or volunteer coaching at the middle school.

Position Details:

This position is open to undergraduate students only, and is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. It is a Student Assistant 2 position, non‑exempt, part‑time, with a pay rate of $15.26 per hour.
