This is a tenure-track faculty position focused on teaching with a research component of the workload. Teaching expectations are two courses per semester for a tripartite position including research and service. A typical contract is 9 months during the fall and spring semesters, with summers off or research funded.

The Department of Civil, Geological, and Environmental Engineering (CGEE) of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering starting fall 2025. The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to developing and sustaining a robust research program, securing external funding, publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and mentoring students. Excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses that support the program and active participation in university and professional service are expected. Candidates must have a BS degree in Engineering, preferably from an ABET-accredited program, and Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline. Prior research and teaching experience are highly desirable. Licensure, or desire to pursue licensure, as a registered Professional Engineer is preferred. Applications from candidates with experience in hydraulics and hydrology will be reviewed. There is particular interest in candidates that can illustrate expertise with:
● sediment transport and river morphology;
● conducting field work related to hydrology in cold regions; and
● water use in circumpolar/Arctic environments.
The CGEE Department consists of two undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering and Geological Engineering. The CE Program offers concentrations in Structures, Geotechnical, Environmental, Water Resources, Transportation, and Arctic Engineering. The GE program provides a curriculum on mitigating geohazards, finding and managing groundwater, and locating mineral resources. Opportunities are available for interdisciplinary research with the Alaska Infrastructure Development Center, the Institute of Northern Engineering, Water and Environmental Research Center and with the College of Natural Science and Mathematics, among others.

Applicants must have a very strong technical background including both professional-quality computer programming, and the ability to teach Civil Engineering courses from the undergraduate to graduate level. Applicants must have a PhD in Civil Engineering Science or equivalent.

Prior experience with Alaska, ABET accreditation, obtaining funded research, and publishing in peer-reviewed publications are welcome but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a BS degree in Engineering, preferably in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, and Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely-related discipline.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
