ANSEP NFWF Program Support Staff (Temporary)

The ANSEP University Success component offers students professional paid internship opportunities with partners like the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). The Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program is seeking two NFWF Program Support Staff members for this 8-week summer experience in Washington, D.C. Reporting directly to the NFWF Program Manager, this position plays a pivotal role in the professional and personal development of 23 undergraduate interns by ensuring a positive residential experience and a supportive community environment.

This role focuses on the daily execution of residence life operations, student safety, and on-site supervision. Key responsibilities include supporting student internship activities, enforcing ANSEP behavior guidelines and the University of Alaska Code of Conduct, and assisting with risk management and departmental duties. Program Support Staff work closely with one another, the Program Manager, and ANSEP leadership to ensure all programmatic needs are met—from monitoring attendance via Connecteam to assisting with Saturday group activities and residential logistics in a fast-paced urban environment.

Requirements & Logistics:

Residency:
Staff are required to reside on-site at the Varsity on K apartment complex in Washington D.C. for the duration of the program.

Availability:
Must be available for on-call, night, and weekend shifts as needed; work may also include some support within Alaska.

Compensation:
Housing and per diem will be provided and any remaining per diem will be reimbursed at the end of the program. This position is an hourly paid position.

You’ll be most successful if you can balance the logistical rigor of managing 23 students—everything from morning wake-up calls and internship navigation to midnight curfews—with the empathy needed to support students living away from home. You are someone who takes direction well from leadership but has the sound judgment to act decisively during an incident or emergency. Success in this position means being a professional role model who maintains clear boundaries while fostering a positive, inclusive community. Minimum Qualifications:

• Applicants must have at least one year of experience related to student programs, residential life, or camp settings, paired with some college coursework (Associate’s degree preferred) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must be 21 or older by May 5, 2026, and possess a valid Alaska Driver’s License with a clean three-year record.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, with or without accommodation, to support dorm logistics.
• Demonstrated knowledge of risk management, behavior management, and/or the ability to interpret university policies.
• Experience traveling outside of Alaska and experience working with Rural or Indigenous populations are highly preferred.

Position Details:

This position is located in Washington D.C. for the duration of our program (8 Weeks). This is a full-time, hourly, temporary position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
