The University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking an Alumni and Community Engagement Specialist to lead social media strategy, support exciting alumni and community events, and help connect graduates through active alumni chapters. The Alumni and Community Engagement Specialist plays a key role in strengthening UAA’s connection with its alumni and the broader community. As part of the Alumni and Community Engagement team in University Advancement, this position leads social media and communications efforts, supports signature alumni and community events, and helps coordinate alumni chapter activities. The Specialist works collaboratively with campus partners, alumni volunteers, and community stakeholders to share UAA’s story, build Seawolf pride, and create meaningful opportunities for engagement.
To thrive in this role, the candidate should bring strong written and verbal communication skills, creativity in developing digital and print content, and the ability to represent UAA in professional and public settings. Experience with social media platforms, event coordination, or community engagement will help you succeed, as will organizational skills and attention to detail. A comfort with technology, including tools such as Microsoft Office and Canva or Adobe Express, is important. The role requires flexibility to occasionally work evenings and weekends for events and a commitment to building positive relationships with alumni, students, and the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
● One year of relevant experience in communications, social media management, event coordination, or community engagement.
● Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and basic graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Express.
Position Details:
This position is located at the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
