A UAA Academic Advisor provides comprehensive, proactive advising services by building relationships of trust, support, and mutual responsibility with students. Academic advisors assist undergraduate degree-seeking students as they navigate pre-college tasks (e.g., placement, major choice), academic requirements, course selection and degree planning, and university policies. Academic advisors also connect students to networks of academic support, student support services, career coaching and guidance, and student life opportunities.

The academic advisor will be a member of the UAA Student Advising team that is dedicated to student-first advising practices. This position reports to a Director of Academic Advising for UAA’s Community & Technical College, the academic advisor is part of the larger Student Success program within the Office of Academic Affairs.

To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will demonstrate passion for student success, an understanding of the role of academic advising within higher education, exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and part of a larger, collaborative team.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and two-three years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree and one year of relevant experience.

Demonstrated experience in working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

Preferred experience: Working or having knowledge of the aviation industry.

Position Details:

This position is located at the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
