This position requires advanced skills, knowledge and experience in completing criminal and non-criminal investigations. Must have advanced knowledge of legal precedent and case law at a federal level as well as the State of Alaska. Must have experience in law enforcement training as an instructor and field training officer with an ability to train and supervise staff. Demonstrated experience and training to investigate and analyze information and gather and organize evidence. Must be able to quickly assess the situation or incidents and act appropriately and in accordance with departmental and University policy, state statutes, and federal regulations within a higher education environment. Be able to act as the on-call officer-in-charge 24-hours a day including nights and weekends. Must be of good moral character, free of cultural and ethnic bias and have a strong desire to protect and serve the community. Must maintain State of Alaska APSIN security clearance. Applicant must meet and maintain all eligibility requirements of Alaska Police Standards Council per 13AAC 85.005-120. Must have obtained an Intermediate Certificate for Police Officer from the Alaska Police Standards Council or be eligible to receive an Intermediate Certificate based on training and experience in a similar jurisdiction. Minimum physical fitness requirements must be met prior to interview.
This position requires graduation from an accredited high school or GED and completion of an accredited civilian police academy accepted by the Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC). Must meet all standards established by the APSC per 13AAC 85.005-120.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful applicant will preferably have the following certifications and minimum documented training:
1. Field Training Officer Certification and experience training at least one new officer.
2. Intermediate Police Officer Certificate from APSC.
3. Methods of Instruction Course, equivalent, or documented experience as a lead instructor in a certified law enforcement training.
4. FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800.
5. Advanced certification as a law enforcement instructor in a law enforcement related field (control tactics, radar, SFST’S, etc.).
6. Front line supervisor training/management training – Minimum 24 hours.
7. Law enforcement ethics training.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 82, based on education and experience.
