Term Assistant Professor of Surgical Technology-Clinical Coordinator

The School of Allied Health in the College of Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage, is seeking a full-time, term faculty/program director to coordinate the surgical technology program and teach surgical technology and prerequisites courses in the School of Allied Health.

The Term Assistant Professor of Surgical Technology brings didactic and/or clinical teaching experience in surgical technology, with a strong commitment to student-centered learning and teaching excellence. They demonstrate the ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural environments and possess current knowledge of the surgical technology scope of practice. The candidate is aligned with the College of Health’s mission and is experienced in supporting diverse student populations. Strong communication skills, computer literacy, and up-to-date knowledge of both nursing practices and relevant curricular content for surgical technology education are also essential.

To thrive in this role, the ideal candidate will possess significant hands-on experience in Surgical Technology, either through direct work in the operating room or through instruction, ensuring they bring real-world relevance to the classroom. A strong background in teaching Surgical Technology, especially with a focus on student-centered and engaging pedagogy, is essential for fostering academic success. The ability to effectively use instructional technologies and communicate complex information clearly will support both in-person and remote learners.

Equally important is the candidate’s experience working in diverse, multicultural environments, which is vital for building an inclusive learning communities. Skills in student evaluation and outcomes assessment are also critical to ensure academic programs meet their learning objectives and support continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Current NCCA-approved credentials in surgical technology (CST).

Preferred Education:
Master degree in related field.
NBSTSA preferred, certification from NCCT will be considered.

Preferred Experience:
• Experience in curriculum development and assessment; experience in program management.
• Familiarity with institutional and/or discipline-based accreditation and appropriate industry standards.
• Familiarity with Surgical Technology training considerations and needs in Alaska.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Goose Lake Campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, term funded, 9-moth faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
