The Consortium Library, University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is recruiting part-time reference professionals to cover a mix of evening, weekend, and weekday reference desk shifts. The Consortium Library serves students, staff, and faculty of UAA and Alaska Pacific University, as well as members of the local community. Research services are provided in-person and via chat/text, email, Zoom, and phone. Part-time reference professionals play an important role in our Instruction and Research program by providing reference desk coverage and assisting librarians with projects. Professional training and development opportunities will be provided as needed. To thrive in this role you will be able to provide effective customer service through excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Use working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and effectively use the Consortium Library’s discovery service, catalog, research databases, and Spring share web applications. Use technology skills to include Google Suite, Word, internet searching, common office equipment, and technology troubleshooting. Be able and willing to quickly learn new technologies and software. Be able to teach library users of varying skills levels to effectively use various technologies. Have the ability to work effectively, sensitively, and collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, one year experience working in a library, customer services experience, experience with troubleshooting technology, experience with library resources and services.
Bachelor’s degree in any field and one year of experience in a relevant field (e.g. libraries, museums,
information services, etc.) (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
• Experience providing customer service or reference services.
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
