The Summer Housing Assistant (SHA) is a student member of the Department of Residence Life. Summer Housing Assistants serve as a resource for summer student housing and summer guest housing. The Summer Housing Assistant will assist with preparation (cleaning) of guest spaces, check-ins and check-outs, serving in an on-call rotation, and providing student and guest services. Summer Housing Assistants are Campus Security Authorities and Authorized Adults. The position carries part-time, live-in responsibilities with appointments made on a semesterly basis. Summer Housing Assistant compensation is $13.03/hr wage and room waiver. The Summer Housing Assistant is required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, not accounting time on duty. This position offers the opportunity for employment up to 40 hours per week from May 5, 2025 to August 15, 2025 (negotiable upon hire).

Candidates should demonstrate leadership potential or have prior leadership experience, with strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with diverse individuals. They must possess the ability to mediate conflicts, manage confrontations, prioritize tasks, and complete work efficiently. Analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment in decision-making are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Candidates should be available to work a minimum of three weeknights (5:00 PM to 8:00 AM) and rotating all-day weekend shifts. Strong organizational skills, a positive and approachable attitude, and a commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of UAF Student Affairs and Residence Life are required. Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite applications is necessary. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry 15 pounds, identify individuals from a minimum of 10 feet away, and navigate up and down eight flights of stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:


Applicants must have unrestricted employment authorization in the United States and are required to complete all UAF employee mandatory training within two weeks of their hire date. This includes Safety Training, Title IX, Protection of Minors, Campus Security Authority, and FERPA. Additionally, by the start date, applicants must have applied for summer housing through the Department of Residence Life.

Must be a full-time student at UAF (12 undergraduate credits / 9 graduate credits) at the time of completing the application (spring semester). All applicants will have their university student conduct record reviewed, and this review will be taken into consideration during the application/interview process. Must be available to work for the duration of the SHA contract period. Contract dates are subject to change.
