Big ideas need strong systems and people who care about how the work gets done.

The Office of Grants & Contracts Administration (OGCA) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is hiring TWO experienced research administration professionals (Sr. Pre-Award Analyst) to help move ambitious research from proposal to impact.

If you're motivated by meaningful work, enjoy solving complex problems, and want to contribute to a research enterprise that values both people and precision, we encourage you to apply!

This Pre-Award role is for someone who enjoys complexity, thinks strategically, and knows how to bring clarity to high-stakes work. You’ll support sophisticated grants and contracts proposal submissions, advise faculty and research administrators, and help shape processes that keep research moving forward accurately, compliantly, and thoughtfully.

The position requires deep expertise in federal and non-federal research administration, sound judgment in applying complex regulations and policies, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across a large, diverse research enterprise. Success in this role means balancing technical excellence with strong communication, problem-solving, and service—providing leadership, navigating ambiguity, and building trusted partnerships that support UAF’s research mission.

The applicant should bring strong experience in research administration and a solid understanding of federal and non-federal sponsor requirements, along with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations with sound judgment.

Success requires excellent written communication skills, including experience drafting and proofreading clear, accurate correspondence and proposal materials, as well as experience developing and analyzing budgets based on research plans, methodologies, and financial forecasting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytically strong, and comfortable navigating ambiguity, able to assess quantitative fiscal issues, apply cost allocation principles, and collaborate effectively across a diverse research community while maintaining a service-oriented mindset.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics or related field and 3 years progressively responsible professional fiscal experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional licensure preferred (e.g. CPA, CFM).

Must either currently hold and maintain Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification or be able to obtain within 3 years. Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) is acceptable, CRA preferred

Position Details:

This position is based on the Troth Yeddha’ Campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). A hybrid work arrangement may be available for candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of the UAF campus. While in-person or hybrid work is preferred, remote work may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates who reside outside of the 50-mile radius.

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
