The Signers’ Business Office (SBO) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is looking for a Human Resources Coordinator who’s ready to make a difference! This is a range recruitment for an HR Coordinator. The successful candidate may be hired at Level 3 or Level 4, depending on qualifications and experience. Placement within the range will be determined based on demonstrated competencies, education, and relevant experience.

At Level 3, the Human Resources Coordinator will demonstrate journeyman level of administrative and coordinating skills required in assisting leadership on recruitment and hiring support. This may involve assisting in providing advise to managers, search committees, and other units of the organization in consultation with the HR Manager. Position descriptions will be reviewed, HR processes documented, and job postings implemented based on guidelines provided by the HR Manager. In this role, fiscal functions to include grant management, fund verification, and financial reminders are extended to supervisors and principal investigators. Human Resources Coordinators will also track NRAs to ensure compliance with employment eligibility requirements and maintaining accurate setup in the Banner system for tax compliance and residency status purposes. Also, they will be involved with assisting with conflict resolution concerns by providing guidance on dispute resolution and adherence to progressive discipline steps. Finally, they will be central in actualizing payroll, compensation and classification, and training and development concerns of their unit. These may include bi-weekly timesheet processing, verifying payroll accuracy, and collaborating with UA payroll for adjustments. They may also respond to payroll-related inquiries regarding bonuses, honorariums, and flat fees.

At level 4, the Senior Human Resources Coordinator will demonstrate master level administrative and coordinating skills required in collaborating with leadership on recruitment and hiring support. Human Resources Technician 3 – Pay Grade 77
Intermediate knowledge of University human resource processes and procedures to include benefits and applicable labor laws. Intermediate knowledge of computer applications and/or electronic spreadsheets.
Intermediate knowledge of Banner HR, creating reports, payroll and personnel actions. Ability to analyze and resolve routine issues. Intermediate knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
Ability to lead, present and train other human resource coordinators.

Human Resources Technician 4 – Pay Grade 78
Advanced knowledge of University human resource processes and procedures to include benefits and applicable labor laws. Advanced knowledge of computer applications and/or electronic spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge of Banner HR, creating reports, payroll and personnel actions. Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues. Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements. Ability to lead, present and train other human resource coordinators.

Human Resources Technician 3 – Pay Grade 77
Minimum 1 year of progressive experience in human resource-related activities. Specifically automated financial and personnel systems.

Human Resources Technician 4 – Pay Grade 78
Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in human resource-related activities. Specifically automated financial and personnel systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Human Resources Technician 3 – Pay Grade 77
One year of college coursework in human resources, and two years of technical human resources experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Human Resources Technician 4 – Pay Grade 78
Two years college coursework in human resources, and three years of technical human resources experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77 or 78, based on education and experience.
