As an AJiC Research Professional 3 you will have tremendous opportunities to conduct justice research for the real world – that is, research that is translational, accessible, and potentially transformational.

Join the Alaska Justice Information Center (AJiC) – Alaska’s preeminent criminal justice and criminology research team and directly contribute to the development and advancement of justice policy in Alaska!

In this position you will bring to bear your social science research skills to empirically examine Alaska’s most pressing crime and justice problems, publish the results of your research in multiple formats (e.g., data visualizations, fact sheets, reports, and peer-reviewed papers), and disseminate your work directly to Alaska justice policymakers and practitioners.

To thrive in this role you must embrace collaborate, interdisciplinary, team-based research. AJiC team members work together across the range of research projects in the center’s research project portfolio, with each team member making their own contributions to final research products and project deliverables.

Flourishing in AJiC’s Research Professional 3 requires advanced proficiency in data management and experience working with large criminal justice administrative data sets, advanced descriptive statistical analysis and data visualization skills, as well as intermediate to advanced quantitative data analysis/modeling skills.

This position will have the opportunity to lead and supervise small research teams comprised of lower-level research professionals as well as research assistants.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Master’s degree and 2 years experience conducting criminological research, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.

  • Prior employment and positions/appointments held, along with brief descriptions of duties and responsibilities for each prior position
  • Specific research project management/coordination experiences and positions held (e.g., principal investigator, investigator, research assistant, etc.)
  • Research publications (e.g., peer-reviewed, book chapters, reports, research articles and briefs, conference presentations, invited lectures/presentations, etc.)
  • Professional and community service activities
  • Awards and honors (if applicable)
• Minimum of one writing sample demonstrating research/analytic skills and writing acumen
• Minimum of three professional references who can speak to your knowledge, skills, and abilities as a researcher
