The Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension is seeking a research technician to assist with recreation research projects. Projects typically involve a visitor survey component. The technician will be responsible for communicating with project sponsors to determine their specific needs, designing and administering surveys, analyzing data, and reporting results. The technician will coordinate with other project personnel, including surveyors in the field.

This position supports a recreation research program within the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The research program focuses on understanding the beneficial outcomes associated with recreation. Of particular note is a project with the headquarters office of the Bureau of Land Management to support their Outcomes Focused Management framework. Projects are conducted throughout Alaska and the western United States. A database of study results is in progress of being developed for the BLM. Meta analysis will be conducted on the database to understand broader trends.

To thrive in this role, the successful applicant will be able to take initiative, work independently, possess strong written and oral communication skills, quantitative skills, and be highly organized.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years college coursework in field relevant to the research and two years experience in a field relevant to the research, or equivalent experience.

Position Details:

This position is located in Anchorage Alaska. This is a part-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77, based on education and experience.
