Preventative Maintenance Assistant Manager

UAF Facilities Services is looking for a detail-oriented and technically minded professional to join our Preventative Maintenance team. This position works closely with the Preventative Maintenance Manager to support and improve the maintenance program for approximately 3.5 million gross square feet of facilities and more than 40,000 equipment records across the Fairbanks and remote campuses.

In this role, you’ll combine hands-on field work with computerized maintenance management. You’ll identify and inventory mechanical, electrical, utility, and building equipment; create and maintain asset records in AiM; develop preventative maintenance schedules and task lists; and help ensure equipment receives the appropriate inspections, service, and maintenance. You’ll work throughout campus facilities gathering equipment information, reviewing drawings and O&M documentation, labeling assets, and verifying that database information accurately reflects equipment in the field.

You’ll also collaborate with Facilities Services supervisors and technicians, engineers, project managers, Customer Service, contractors, inspectors, and other campus partners to continually improve the effectiveness of UAF’s preventative maintenance program.

To thrive in this role, you should have at least two years of experience using computers, including database entry and operation, Excel spreadsheets, CMMS software, and word processing, along with two years of technical experience with mechanical or electrical equipment in an institutional, industrial, or construction setting.

You should have knowledge of facility mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems; understand equipment maintenance needs and how preventative maintenance can minimize failures; and be able to read and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, and O&M manuals. Strong organizational, database, and accurate data-entry skills are essential, including the ability to organize equipment records into logical systems and analyze utility data for trends or anomalies.

You must be able to communicate effectively with technicians, university staff, and contractors and work comfortably throughout campus facilities. Building inspections may require climbing ladders and stairs, looking above ceilings, and entering mechanical, electrical, and other non-public spaces to identify and tag equipment. Some in-state travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two Years of college level education in Engineering, Industrial/Construction Technology, or equivalent education/experience. High School Diploma or equivalent. Alaska Driver's License required.

Preferred: Bachelor of Science engineering degree from accredited institution. Maintenance Management Systems or database management. 5-10 years' experience with institutional or industrial mechanical equipment maintenance or operations.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
