Become a Peer Prevention Educator at UAF!
Peer Prevention Educators are student leaders who work under the guidance of the Prevention and Outreach Coordinator in the Office of Rights, Compliance, and Accountability. In this role, you’ll help promote a safer, healthier campus by providing outreach and education on key topics such as substance misuse, mental health awareness, and relationship violence prevention.
As a Peer Prevention Educator, you’ll receive extensive training—including nationally recognized Certified Peer Educator certification and Green Dot Bystander Intervention training—to prepare you for meaningful engagement with your fellow students. Outreach efforts may include hosting events, creating educational materials, staffing informational tables, distributing newsletters, and offering one-on-one peer consultations.
This position is a valuable opportunity to build skills in leadership, event planning, marketing, communication, and wellness education. It’s especially well-suited for students interested in careers in healthcare, social work, psychology, education, justice, or holistic wellness.

Have a genuine interest in prevention programming and a passion for promoting student well-being. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with a friendly, approachable demeanor and the ability to connect with peers. Successful Peer Prevention Educators are dependable, well-organized, and demonstrate leadership in both independent and team settings.
While not required, experience in health promotion, public speaking or presentations, mentoring, and involvement in university clubs or organizations is highly valued and will strengthen your application.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must have the following requisites:
1) They must be enrolled at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment.
2) Have a least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA).
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Fairbanks. This is a part-time, student assistant position, starting rate of $16.00/hr.
