To thrive in this role, a candidate must demonstrate the capacity to manage high-volume, high-pressure, and detail-oriented work while maintaining composure and accuracy in a fast-paced, interruption-prone environment. Success requires exceptional organizational skills, the ability to make sound decisions, prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and work independently as well as collaboratively within a highly computerized setting. Strong customer service skills and patience are essential, particularly in working with students and prospective students. The ideal candidate will possess excellent public speaking abilities and be comfortable presenting to both small and large groups, while communicating knowledgeably about UAF’s academic programs, financial aid, student services, residence life, and advising. Demonstrated leadership, writing, editing, and decision-making skills are crucial, along with proficiency in basic accounting and office procedures. Analytical thinking, strong written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to problem-solve in complex or emotionally charged situations are vital. Experience working with diverse populations and perspectives, as well as conflict resolution abilities, are highly valued. Preference will be given to candidates familiar with federal DoD Tuition Assistance and VA education benefit regulations and those with experience using systems such as Banner, Army IgnitED, VA-ONCE, AI Portal, and Navy NCMIS. The role also calls for the ability to coordinate and schedule events of various scales, multitask effectively, and lead projects to completion with creativity, confidentiality, and cross-cultural sensitivity. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software is expected, and the ability to travel and represent UAF with a strong student-centered ethic is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree required and two years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid driver's license. Experience coordinating programs. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
