The Mariculture Education Coordinator will help build a strong partnership between the Sitka Sound Science Center and the University of Alaska Southeast by supporting and expanding hands-on, place-based aquaculture education for undergraduate students. This position will mentor students in wet lab protocols, support research and farm projects, coordinate internships, and lead the design of a teaching-focused Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system. You’ll need strong organizational skills to juggle curriculum planning, student support, content creation, and community outreach. Ideal candidates will have experience in Alaska’s aquaculture or mariculture industry, knowledge of salmon or shellfish culture, comfort working in wet labs and outdoor field conditions, and familiarity with tools like the Adobe Suite to create engaging educational content across platforms.

The position requires strong collaboration and communication skills to engage effectively with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the public. Candidates should demonstrate initiative and independence in managing tasks and projects, as well as the ability to work in both outdoor Southeast Alaska weather conditions and indoor wet lab environments. Strong organizational skills are needed for curriculum development, content creation, reporting, and presentations, along with knowledge of basic design principles to produce clear and engaging materials. The role also calls for the ability to share promotional content across multiple platforms, experience in Alaska’s aquaculture and mariculture industry, and training or experience in formal or informal teaching. Completion of relevant UAS courses or equivalent experience in salmon culture and mariculture is required, as well as proficiency with content creation tools such as those in the Adobe Suite.
