Kenai Peninsula College in Homer is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable IT Support Specialist to join our team and provide comprehensive technology support across our campus community. This position plays a vital role in maintaining and supporting campus-wide IT systems, ensuring smooth and efficient operations for students, faculty, and staff.

The successful candidate will deliver front-line technical support, training, and troubleshooting for hardware, software, instructional technologies, and university services. You will manage the full lifecycle of IT equipment, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, and disposal, while maintaining accurate inventory records and assisting with software licensing and patch management. You will also contribute to the management and configuration of our campus network, Active Directory environment, and Group Policy within our domain scope.

In addition to end-user and system support, you will assist in maintaining our campus infrastructure, including Windows and Linux servers, a virtualized data center environment, and backup systems. Your responsibilities will extend to configuring and supporting our network infrastructure—routers, switches, VLANs, subnets, firewalls, and wireless systems—while maintaining clear documentation and inventory records. The role also includes supporting classroom audiovisual (AV) systems through design, procurement, installation, and troubleshooting, and providing AV assistance for classes and large events, which may occasionally occur on evenings or weekends.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Candidates should possess hands-on experience in managing desktop computing hardware and AV systems, as well as maintaining network infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related field) and 2 years experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred qualifications include prior experience in an academic environment, supporting distance education, familiarity with Extron systems, and IT Help Desk experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Homer. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78 starting at $25.11 per hour, based on education and experience.
