The Consortium Library at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Library Science. This position will serve as the Instruction, Research, and Liaison Librarian to the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) at University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and Alaska Pacific University (APU). The Instruction and Research Services Department, part of the Consortium Library, supports the University and Library missions and promotes a welcoming environment and an appreciation for each unique member of our academic community. The STEM Librarian will provide instruction (F2F, hybrid, & online), research services, collection development, and outreach to programs in their areas. This work will include creating and leading course-integrated instruction on STEM-related information literacy to support the needs of students and faculty. The person in this position will also serve as the liaison for STEM-related Alaska Native programs and courses, for example, the Alaska Native Science and Engineering (ANSEP) program. It is expected that the STEM Librarian will collaborate with other liaisons and colleagues in the library. Liaison areas may change with department and library needs.

The successful candidate will be committed to furthering the goals of the Library’s information literacy program as a high impact educational practice critical to student success. This includes integrating information literacy strategically within courses and programs, developing online learning objects and experiences, and integrating new technologies and e-pedagogy into the teaching and learning process. Additionally, the candidate will assist the department in increasing its AI literacy presence in STEM areas. Outreach to campus clientele in the assigned liaison areas is a significant component of this position and involves an understanding of relationship building to market and promote instruction, collections, and services to a variety of audiences

To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will be collaborative, technologically adept, and have a strong commitment to innovative information literacy instruction, user education services, and assessment. They will have experience or knowledge of using information literacy concepts and instructional design to create quality learning experiences for students. This will include teaching across F2F and online modalities using digital resources, discovery services, libguides, and web-based instructional technologies such as Zoom, video tutorial or module creation software, or course management systems.

A willingness and interest in learning about and using new technologies for teaching, research, and professional development are important to this position. Knowledge, experience with, or interest in some of the following: analytics and data research services, artificial intelligence, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will also be helpful to the success of the person serving as the STEM Librarian. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, a strong commitment to quality customer service, experience working collaboratively, and be able to meet the Library Faculty Evaluation Guidelines for tenure and promotion.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program or equivalent by July/August 2026, and one year of work experience in a library.

Education, or knowledge of, or experience working in a field relevant to the STEM liaison areas; or searching and using information resources in a field relevant to the STEM liaison areas including government resources.

Teaching, training, or presenting experience and/or experience providing research or information services.

Experience with library and digital resources, tools and services such as discovery services, libguides, web-based instructional technologies, such as screen-casting software, tutorial or module creation software such as LibWizard, Zoom, and/or course management systems.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, 9 + 3 position, tenure-track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
