The University of Alaska Fairbanks HVAC Shop seeks applicants for the position of Preventative Maintenance Technician to perform PM work in order to keep mechanical equipment in peak operating condition. Typical work will include changing air filters, greasing motors, cleaning mechanical equipment, and performing visual checks on a variety of mechanical equipment. Typical work schedule will be M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm. Successful applicants will demonstrate at least one year in a field related to this position (building or equipment maintenance), and be a high school graduate or equivalent.

This is a range recruitment from MSW4 - CT2.

Proficiency in delivering exceptional customer service is expected at all skill levels. This includes the capacity to establish and sustain productive working relationships with individuals and groups while effectively contributing as a team member.

Ability to pass the 16-hour Asbestos Operations & maintenance course, pass the annual asbestos physical, and pass appropriate respirator fit test and training.

Possession of a valid Driver’s license and ability to operate University vehicles per University guidelines is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

MSW4

  • May possess journeyman level certification. Requires apprentice level or other equivalent 
    certification appropriate to the specific trade; with a minimum of three years related experience in a field related to the position (building or equipment maintenance)and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    CT1
  • 3 years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC/R equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year experience performing preventative maintenance work on HVAC/R equipment.
  • Basic working knowledge of electricity and electrical systems is required.
  • Appropriate training in HVAC/R systems troubleshooting and repair is required.
  • Familiarity with basic computer programs such as MS Office software and web browsers is required.

    CT2
  • Must have a Class 2 boiler license or have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Journeyman level or equivalent skills, education, and experience in HVAC systems repair, with a focus on boiler operation and maintenance and hydronic heating and cooling systems water quality.
  • Five years or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possession of a valid Driver’s license and ability to operate University vehicles is required for all positions.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary Information:MSW4 /Step 1 $22.19/hr. 

                                    CT1:Step 1 $ 24.97/hr

                                    CT2:Step 1 $ 28.09/hr
