Graduate Writing Support Professional

Are you passionate about writing? Do you like working with talented students and learning about some of the best, emergent research happening at UAF? As a Writing Support Professional at the Center for Teaching and Learning, you’ll work directly with graduate students on their major research projects. You’ll have the opportunity to develop and lead programming for groups of graduate students and work in depth with individual students in a tutoring environment. You’ll be supporting cutting-edge research in its earliest stages by bringing to bear your writing expertise.

Applicants are expected to have familiarity/working knowledge of some combination of the following:

Conventions across multiple disciplines of academic and research writing; Data analysis; Data communication and/or visualization; Best practices for teaching academic writing, including for adult learners and those in need of support writing in English; Strong attention to detail and ability to provide constructive feedback; Facilitation in small and large group contexts.

Familiarity with or understanding of a range of graduate student experiences; Familiarity with project management techniques; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously; Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Google suite.

Master’s degree or PhD; experience as a graduate student and in long-form academic writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAF campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, on-campus, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
