KRUA is recruiting for a Station Manager position at KRUA 88.1FM, the student radio station at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

The KRUA Station Manager, as the designated Chief Operator, is responsible for the management and performance of the student media organization KRUA 88.1 FM. This position is the station spokesperson and primary contact for all public relations requests. The station manager must take initiative to maintain the organization's presence on campus by participating in boards and committees to facilitate opportunities for special broadcasts and collaborations. KRUA's broadcast license is owned by the University of Alaska Board of Regents and is licensed as an educational, non-commercial, FM radio station by the Federal Communications Commission. This position is responsible for ensuring the station is FCC compliant. KRUA 88.1 FM works to enhance the UAA student experience by providing campus event coverage, music, news, sports, public affairs and broadcast experience. KRUA employs students, trains over 40 volunteers each year, and partners with the Department of Journalism & Communication to provide training and experiential learning opportunities.

To thrive in this role the candidate must have a basic understanding and willingness to learn the Federal Communications Commission's regulations and media law. Candidate must also have experience with station equipment operation, on-air broadcast and audio production. The person must be able to lead a group and develop a successful team of radio station staff. The ability to prepare a budget and monitor fiscal records is required, as is experience in management, training, and supervision of staff and volunteers. Candidate should be innovative, imaginative, and motivating. Must have experience leading groups/staffs. In addition, candidate must have a working knowledge of professional journalist ethics and standards demanded within the industry, First Amendment Rights, and legal issues. Candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbally and written, work with minimal supervision, and have previous experience working in an environment that requires public contact.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of 60-90 college credits, including fundamental journalism and public communications courses to include editing, news writing, media law, and ethics or equivalent experience is required.

Position Details:

This is a part-time, non-exempt temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temp Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 73.
