We are seeking field technicians for the summer (May - September, 2026) to assist with boreal forest research as part of the Forest Soils Lab in the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension (IANRE). The technicians will also assist with lab work and other lab duties. The Forest Soils Lab has been in operation since the late 1960's and has conducted cutting-edge boreal forest research using state-of-the-art tools. As part of the team, successful applicants will learn how to collect high quality data, apply critical thinking skills during data collection, and learn about the boreal forest, plant physiology, and environmental change.

To thrive in this role, the successful applicant should have: 1. Previous experience conducting field research is preferred but not necessary. 2. Tolerate working in inclement weather. 3. Be comfortable working independently and in a team. 4. Be able to follow standardized protocols and carefully record and enter data. 5. Have a driver's license and clean driving record required to operate University vehicle and ATVs. 6. Be professional and have clear communication skills to coordinate with supervisor and lab personnel. 7. Be able to take direction.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year college coursework in a field relevant to the research (e.g. science) and 6 months of experience in a field relevant to the research or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A valid driver license or the ability to obtain one.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77.
