The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced leader to serve as the Director of Advising. This position is pivotal in leading and supporting an amazing team of advisors through transformational change to improve the student experience. At UAF, students engage with traditional coursework and need support in developing curricular pathways conducive to student success, but they are also immersed in unique educational experiences that foster personal and academic growth. The Director will provide strategic direction and coordination for advising services across the university, and work with an inspired team of leaders to create and help students access transformative experiences.

Qualifications for Success in This Role:

Educational and Professional Experience:
Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in academic advising, student services, or related areas within a higher education setting.

Leadership and Management:
Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervisory roles, team-building, and strategic planning capabilities.
Proven track record of leading process improvement initiatives and implementing effective change management strategies.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Exceptional oral and written communication abilities, evidenced by the preparation of comprehensive reports, correspondence, and recommendations.

Knowledge and Commitment:
Familiarity with advising theories, student development theories, best practices in retention and persistence, and relevant technologies and data analytics tools. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in student services and academic support initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree and significant experience (minimum 5 years) in academic advising, student services, or related areas in a higher education setting

Position Details:

This is a full-time, exempt staff position with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 83, based on education and experience.
