The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), Campus Services division is recruiting for experienced Custodial Staff to oversee the custodial operations and overall cleanliness of the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC). With 196,000 square feet and seating for up to 5,000 guests, the Alaska Airlines Center is the premier entertainment venue of not just Anchorage but the state of Alaska. Hosting events that welcome guests from all across the state and beyond, the Custodial Staff plays a crucial role in ensuring the facility lives up to being the crown jewel of UAA by maintaining the highest cleanliness and safety standards. This role is responsible for supervising a team of custodial staff, coordinating cleaning schedules, and maintaining a high level of cleanliness throughout the facility and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The ideal candidate will have superior attention to detail and a commitment to providing a safe and sanitary environment for all patrons and staff. As needed the Custodial Staff will provide support outside typical responsibilities to all aspects of divisional need to further the goals and mission of Campus Services.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Custodial Professional with extensive knowledge of general custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping practices and procedures. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with commercial cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers, buffers, and carpet cleaning machines, including high-pressure and truck-mounted extractors. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or in a team setting are essential. Responsibilities include maintaining inventories, using cleaning chemicals safely, adhering to biohazard protocols, and interpreting technical instructions for accurate chemical usage. The role requires flexibility for variable shifts and overtime, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

The position hours are as follows: 6:00am to 2:30pm and 2:00pm to 10:30pm. When there are events (concerts, banquets, sporting events, etc.) that require additional post-event cleaning, candidates must be flexible to change work schedules as needed to include late night. Successful candidates for this position must be able to work the scheduled start times listed above.

Candidates must have willingness to rotate shifts at the discretion of the Custodial Supervisor.

Candidates should also exhibit a commitment to upholding cleanliness standards, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance procedures. Ultimately, a successful Custodial Staff will be dedicated, reliable, and capable of delivering consistently high-quality service.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year of demonstrated work history within commercial custodial, commercial janitorial or commercial housekeeper sectors.

FERPA certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Title IX certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Workplace Harassment Prevention certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Other training as assigned.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary Information: MSW3 /Step 1 $19.71/hr.  (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule).

This position is represented by the Alaska Higher Education Crafts & Trades Employees (L6070).

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
