CT1 Alarms Technician

The UAF Facilities Services Division of Maintenance is looking for a CT1 Alarms Technician to join our team! This union-represented, apprentice-level position works alongside experienced Crafts & Trades professionals to inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire and security alarm systems throughout the UAF campus.

Under the supervision of the Plumbing, Alarms and Insulation Shop Service Manager, this position assists with routine alarm system maintenance and repairs, equipment identification and documentation, blueprint review, inspections, and troubleshooting. The successful candidate will receive hands-on experience and training while developing their knowledge of UAF’s campus alarm systems.

Once trained, this position will participate in an on-call rotation and may be required to work additional hours as operational needs arise.

To thrive in this role, you will need experience performing inspections, testing, and maintenance on alarm systems, with the ability to obtain the required certification or license within one year of hire. The ability to read and interpret blueprints, along with demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of related hand tools and experience working at heights. Candidates should be able to collect equipment data using a variety of methods, anticipate equipment needs, and take effective action based on those findings.

Successful candidate should be able to work cooperatively with others as well as independently and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. The ability to follow written and oral instructions is essential. Basic computer skills, along with the ability to learn and use specific computer software and hardware applications, such as a maintenance work order system is essential.

Candidates must be committed to following established safety standards and procedures and performing all work in a safe manner. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, work successfully as part of a team, and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills is essential. This position also requires the ability to work in enclosed or near-confined spaces.

Preferred:
Have experience in Emergency Power System maintenance
Have Experience in fire sprinkler operation and maintenance
Must be able to pass CJIS clearance.

Minimum Qualifications:

Apprentice level or other equivalent certification appropriate to the electrical or electronics trades; with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in alarms, electronics, CCTV, and/or Access control.

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, union-represented staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
