We are seeking a dedicated Crafts & Trades I (CT1) to join our dynamic team, where you can grow and develop your skills and career.

This position is a full-time position working in the Campus Services Housing Facilities department. Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision. Performs various maintenance, repair and re-construction tasks for compliance with applicable work orders and professional practices. Troubleshoot, analyze and repair all types of maintenance failures using a variety of test equipment, e.g. volt/ohm meters and tools.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret professional journals and technical procedures. Ability to read o&m manuals and building as-builts. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work independently and in a group setting including following, interpreting, and communicating instructions given by management; relating to management and other employees in a positive manner, making efforts to solve crew conflicts, and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pressures, frequency, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems (troubleshoot and identification of root cause), collect data, (research the product, review as-builts, review O&M data, and other online resources), establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Proficiency: Capability to use computers for email, word processing, and creating bid estimates. Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems and other software systems as required by the individual job requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, in confined spaces, in both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Appropriate protective measures must be taken to prevent possible injury.

Building codes, regulations, and safety standards: familiarity and working knowledge of codes and standards related to the applicable trade industry. Including but not limited to: AKOSHA, plumbing code, and ASRHA standards.

In addition to the above, CT1 must have skills and knowledge of building systems and commercial applications.

A successful applicant must be able to work independently with little or no supervision. The role involves performing various maintenance, repair and re-construction tasks for compliance with applicable work orders and professional practices. The applicant should be skilled at troubleshooting, analyzing and repairing all types of maintenance failures using a variety of test equipment, such as volt/ohm meters and tools.

This position will require you to be in an after-hours on call rotation, to work extended hours and weekends. 

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of training, education and/or experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of Electrical, Electronic or related industrial trades. Electrical Apprentice Level. Apprentice level and/or 3 years of training, education or experience in Electrical maintenance or as a laborer in electrical construction or related field. Three years of experience with industrial tools and/or hand tools related to the trades. 

All positions require a High School Diploma or equivalent and a valid Alaska drivers license with a clean driving record, meeting University of Alaska safe driving standards. As part of the required University background check - UAA will obtain a driving history record from DMV to confirm candidates meet the UAA safe driving standards. **Please state in your cover letter whether or not you have or can obtain a valid driver's license upon hire.**

Preferred knowledge of building electrical systems and maintenance of building systems.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position, complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
