Alaska Sea Grant is recruiting a Coastal Resilience Specialist position in Alaska's Yukon-Kuskokwim (Y-K) Delta region. This Coastal Resilience Specialist will build trusted collaborations to empower communities to build resilience by providing data and decision support tools, expertise, research, and extension services. 

This coastal resilience position for the Y-K region will be an integral member of Alaska Sea Grant, working independently but collaboratively with community members, Tribes, scientists, educators, and resource managers. The successful candidate will work with colleagues at the community, state, national, and international scale to develop programs that enhance community well-being.

To be successful in this position, we are looking for someone who can build collaborative relationships with Tribes, non-profits, and agencies working in the region to develop and enhance resilience and community well-being.

Experience working in rural and/or with Alaska Native communities or populations in Alaska and with various cultures and knowledge systems.
Familiarity with topics related to coastal resilience.
Ability to work independently and balance complex tasks, deadlines, and budgets from internal and external organizations.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with knowledge and ability to write and edit reports and other materials.
Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific topics and content in a culturally appropriate manner via print, electronic media (video, radio, email, social), and in-person appearances.
Ability to communicate findings from projects for internal and external reporting.

This position should preferably but is not required, to have experience and/or education in food and energy systems, resilience, community well-being, environmental (one) health, resilience and/or adaptation planning, or other topics related to coastal resilience.

Minimum Qualifications:

A successful applicant must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in the social or natural sciences, and demonstrate experience working closely with rural and/or predominately Alaska Native communities. Applicants must have one year of experience in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Kuskokwim campus in Bethel and will include a 38% geographic differential. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
