ASUAF advisor position is a dynamic and fast-paced position that has the opportunity to help students grow and develop as leaders at UAF. This position reports to the director of the Wood Center and will collaborate with other members of Wood Center to provide intentional and meaningful student leadership development to the students of ASUAF. The ASUAF Advisor will provide day-to-day mentorship, office and financial management, and assist ASUAF in their mission to represent and advocate for all students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Duties of fiscal and operational management of ASUAF will be done in collaboration with WC fiscal officer.

The ideal candidate possesses the ability to successfully recruit, hire, train, and supervise student staff. They have knowledge of project management or demonstrate a willingness to learn. Strong skills in program development, program management, and budgeting are essential, along with experience in budget management, including forecasting and accounting principles.

A solid understanding of student governments and Robert’s Rules of Order is necessary, as well as familiarity with student affairs practices and student development theories, including best practices. The candidate should be able to work collaboratively with a team of student affairs professionals to provide training, programs, and leadership opportunities. Additionally, they must be capable of engaging with multiple stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and fostering inclusive and effective communication.

Conflict management and resolution skills are important, as is the ability to interpret, articulate, and implement changes to bylaws, policies, and regulations. The candidate should also demonstrate knowledge of decision-making strategies and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, experience with assessment strategies, including their implementation and the use of data to improve practices, is highly valued.

Three years of experience working in a college setting, with a strong background in student advising practices and supporting student development theories. They have experience working in a fast-paced, solution-focused environment, demonstrating adaptability and problem-solving skills. Additionally, they possess supervisory, coaching, or mentoring experience, allowing them to effectively guide and support students and staff. A focus on leadership development or education settings further enhances their ability to foster student growth and organizational success.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training required.
3 years required experience working in a college setting.
Masters in Student Affairs or Leadership Development related fields preferred.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
