Assistant Professor of Process Technology

Are you ready to pass on your process industry experience to the next generation of Alaska's workforce? Kenai Peninsula College invites applications for its Assistant Professor of Process Technology position as part of the University of Alaska Anchorage system. Primary duties include teaching 100- and 200-level Process Technology and Instrumentation courses, in the classroom, in the lab, and online. Part of your workload also includes a service component which involves helping support the program, working with industry partners, and staying involved in college and community activities.

Kenai Peninsula College’s Process Technology program is a highly regarded, industry-connected program with decades of experience preparing students for careers in a variety of process industries. Based at the Kenai River Campus in Soldotna, the program combines classroom learning with hands-on labs, simulators and industry-style equipment. This degree program is flexible and designed to meet the needs of new students entering college as well as those looking to make a change later in their careers. Graduates have gone on to work with major employers across Alaska and beyond in a wide variety of process industries.

To thrive in this role, the successful applicant will bring strong industrial process operations experience and the ability to teach students how to think, work and troubleshoot like process operators. They should be comfortable teaching in a control room, process plant, and outside field environments, and should be able to connect instruction to normal and emergency situations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and with the use of pneumatic, electronic, and digital control systems.

Prior college teaching experience is not required. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with process systems, instrumentation, and equipment such as turbines, drivers, pumps, tanks, exchangers, separation systems, furnaces, boilers, and related industrial equipment. Success in this position also requires the ability to interpret P&IDs, develop and revise operating procedures, and apply industrial safety, environmental, and operational standards in both classroom and applied learning settings.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of Alaska’s process industries, KPC’s Process Technology program, and experience in oil and gas, chemical production, refining, power production, or related industrial operations. Candidates who have experience training, mentoring, coaching and onboarding employees in an industrial setting will be especially well-prepared to succeed in this role.

Minimum Qualifications: (one of the following)

• Bachelor's degree in appropriate/related discipline, OR 

• Associate degree and documented 5 years of process operating experience, OR

• 15 years of process operator experience in the natural resources industry.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Kenai Peninsula College campus in Soldotna with a targeted starting date of Fall 2027. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
