The Department of Economics & Public Policy at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Economics on a nine-month base, beginning Fall 2027, to teach core macroeconomics courses including Principles of Macroeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics. The search is open to a wide variety of research fields, and we especially welcome candidates with interests in financial, environmental, resource, or labor economics, economic history, or international trade. The department works closely with UAA's Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), which offers opportunities for applied, policy-relevant research. UAA is located in Anchorage, Alaska's largest city and home to nearly 300,000 residents, with a rich cultural life that includes the Anchorage Museum, the Alaska Native Heritage Center, and signature events like Fur Rendezvous and the ceremonial start of the Iditarod. The half-million-acre Chugach State Park borders town, with hundreds of miles of hiking trails, backcountry skiing, and singletrack mountain biking, all reachable within twenty minutes of campus. Within the city itself, more than 100 miles of greenbelt trails, including the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, connect neighborhoods for year-round running and biking, and Kincaid Park and Far North Bicentennial Park add groomed and lighted cross-country ski trails. Salmon run through Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage, and the world’s best fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing are a short drive away.
