ARLIS Student Assistant

Alaska Resources Library & Information Services (ARLIS) is the library of seven federal and state resource management agencies in partnership with the University of Alaska Anchorage. It is co-located within the UAA Consortium Library but separately managed. The collection focuses on Alaska and northern regions, particularly in regards to natural resources and their associated cultural heritage. Under the direction of the Manager of Technical Services, you will perform vital library maintenance functions that are "hidden behind the scenes"  primarily in the areas of physical processing and physical and digital preservation. This job offers the convenience of working on campus and the flexibility of working around your classes.

Applicant must use a computer keyboard accurately for data entry, be detail-oriented, understand written and verbal instructions, have good organizational skills, must be physically able to handle book carts, and must be able to move boxes. Must be able to work within the overall timeframe of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on site. Experience with binding machines, Adobe Acrobat editing, PhotoShop, digital scanning, and other office computer skills will be very helpful. Previous library experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicant must: (1a) Be a University of Alaska student enrolled with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester; or (1b) For employment between semesters, have successfully completed six or more UA credit hours in the preceding semester and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester; and (2a) Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA), or (2b) Be a newly enrolled student. High school graduation is required. Work experience in an office, bookstore, or library is desirable, but not required. Previous typical office experience should contribute to proficiency.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a student employee position. Pay is $14.19/hour.
