As an Archives Technician you will join a small, user-focused team of archivists. The term funding for this position is focused on description and digitization of lands-related archival collections dating from the 1930s to the 2000s. In this role you will be creating description for materials that are currently inaccessible, handling one-of-a-kind materials in a variety of media types, rehousing them as needed, describing them, selecting photographs and documents for inclusion in the Alaska’s Digital Archives, digitizing for online access as well as preservation reformatting of obsolete media such as videotape, and creating metadata for items being placed online. Accurate and user-focused description ensures that the unique, irreplaceable materials in the Archives are accessible to our library users: students, faculty, and community members.

To thrive in this role, you will use your critical thinking and communication skills to assess archival materials and create description using departmental and international standards. Given the age and nature of many of the documents, a capacity to read cursive writing is essential. Accurate and user-focused description ensures that the unique, irreplaceable materials in the Archives are accessible to our library users: students, faculty, and community members.
