ANSEP is seeking dedicated student support staff to join its Anchorage Acceleration site. This position is central to the daily operations, providing a safe, academically focused, and supportive environment for up to 100 high school students, with future growth anticipated. The role involves direct student supervision, academic coaching, and the implementation of enriching extracurricular activities, all while ensuring the well-being and success of every participant. The Education Facilitator is responsible for supporting the academic and extracurricular success of students through program development, facilitation, supervision, recitation/tutoring, and support. This role involves assisting with the planning and implementation of activities, providing direct student support, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The Education Facilitator will work collaboratively with site leadership and staff to achieve program goals.

Working at the ANSEP Anchorage Acceleration site is a high-energy, multifaceted role. Since you are working with students ages 13-17 in a college-level environment, your day is a mix of "academic coach," "classroom teacher," and "risk manager." This isn't a desk job. You are a mentor and a protector. You need to be comfortable switching from a "firm authority figure" (enforcing safety and boundaries) to an "encouraging coach" (helping a 14-year-old pass a college level exam) in a matter of minutes.

To thrive in this role, a candidate must be a high-energy academic anchor who balances a protective, safety-first mindset with the empathy of a dedicated mentor. Because you are working with students as young as 13 in a demanding university environment, the ideal candidate is someone who can command a room of 20 teenagers with authoritative professionalism while simultaneously providing the granular, one-on-one coaching needed to help them pass college-level STEM courses. You must be a proactive communicator—someone who doesn't wait for a crisis to occur but instead anticipates student needs, identifies subtle shifts in mental health, and meticulously documents progress. Ultimately, a thriving staff member is a boundary-setter who can navigate the complexities of University of Alaska policies and ANSEP’s high standards, all while fostering a safe, judgment-free space where students feel empowered to tackle the rigors of higher education.

Candidates will need exceptional organizational and time-management skills to effectively juggle responsibilities. Strong program/instructional design, facilitation, and presentation abilities will be key to engaging and motivating students. A capacity to provide constructive feedback and support and foster their growth alongside adaptability and flexibility are crucial for navigating the dynamic environment. Candidates should excel at building strong working relationships and collaborating as a team member, all while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with sound judgment and decision-making, are essential. Conflict resolution, problem-solving, and behavior management skills will be vital for fostering a supportive and productive learning environment. A candidate must possess strong student supervision skills and be proficient in providing academic support, including tutoring/teaching and time management coaching. Experience in developing and facilitating programming focused on STEM based classes, life skills and other school subjects is essential. The ideal applicant will demonstrate a commitment to risk management, including responding to incidents and emergencies effectively and ensuring student safety on and off campus. A valid AK driver's license with three years of a driving record on a valid driver's license and ability to operate a 15-passenger van are also required. A current or past teaching certificate is preferred for this role.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or education field and two years progressively responsible experience related to school aged children. At least 1 years of management experience in a school or youth development program or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Teaching certification preferred.
  • Current CPR with AED/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Experience working with rural and/or Indigenous Alaska populations preferred.
  • Position requires driving an ANSEP vehicle. Applicant must be 21 and older to apply and have a valid AK driver's license with three years of a clean driving record on a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift or move 25 to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt (salaried) staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.

Position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.

Position is a 9 month position and runs the standard academic year (August through May). This position would start in August 2026.
